The Old Gods Stories are a shared world. An expansive universe. A series of middle-grade, young adult, and new adult stories following the adventures of diviners, rune warriors, wizards, and more. Rick Riordan meets JK Rowling meets Marvel Comics in this exciting collection of novels based on ancient belief systems, folklore, mythology, and more.
Genre: Middle-Grade Fantasy / Young Adult Fantasy (Portal, Myth, Folklore)
Age: 8 - 18
Tone: Light-hearted, Adventurous, Whimsical, Fun
Setting & Theme: The story depicts Santa Claus over several pivotal years of his life (think Sorkin’s Steve Jobs movie), starting from 280 A.D. when St. Nicholas was born, then in the 300s A.D. when he dies and ascends to become a god, and the subsequent times in his life where he’s rebranded himself through the years to remain powerful and worshiped. This is important because the magic in this world is built on worship, which is a consistent theme in Santa Claus stories, "Believe in Santa Claus." Each submission can be an entirely different take. You can make Santa Claus a hero or villain, paragon or renegade, or maybe an apathetic guy who just wants to chill and spread some gifts around.
Each story will be written by different magical "historians," or first-hand accounts, or Santa Claus’ very own POV over the key points in St. Nick’s life. The full list of cultural events can be found here by clicking or tapping this Google Doc link.
